MNRK Music Publishing Newsletter
So, in a snapshot, Hasbro bought Entertainment One in 2020, kept the film, tv and family divisions, but at the end of 2021 sold the music division in its entirety to Blackstone.  Hence the new name.

9am

The production duo made up of Jeff Baranowski and Luka Milano, 9AM have been on a roll with cuts from a range of cultural icons. They co-wrote charlieonafrieday’s latest single “Enough” for Island, his follow-up to “After Hours,” with our own Seth Reger and Club97. They also had a hand in the latest collab from Korean rapper B.I and Soulja Boy, a song called “BTBT” which features Devita, and co-written and produced by the Stereotypes. They wrote and produced the latest song for Noah Cyrus called “Ready to Go” which is featured on her latest Columbia Records EP. Lastly, they co-wrote and produced two songs for alt-pop artist Mallory Merk on Warner, “Cancel Your Plans” with Seth Reger and “We’re Not The Same” both which feature on her new Thorns EP.

We are proud to welcome writer, producer and artist Jarrel Young aka Jarrel The Young to the MNRK roster. His production on Fall Out Boy’s “Uma Thurman” has racked up over 500 million streams, as well as cuts with David Guetta, Neyo and Jessie Reyez. Most recently, he co-produced “Papi’s Home” on Drake’s seminal Certified Lover Boy (Republic/OVO). Since then, he’s worked with Boogie (Interscope), Karizma (Arista), St Bodhi (Def Jam), McKayla Maroney and in London with 303 (Universal), Slocal (Ditto), SL (Virgin) and Spinall (Universal Nigeria). Additionally, his work has appeared in Super Bowl commercials, scored films with Bieber and worked on a sonic identity for the city of Toronto. We’re excited to see where his work takes him next.

Gin$eng’s Dream, Ivory project continues to build followers, quietly amassing over 89 Million streams since the beginning of Covid, entirely through ‘word of mouth’ on Reddit and private ‘sad girl’ posts on Tiktok. Entirely written with his brother Louie, there seems to be no stopping this “bedroom” side project, a collaborator with whom Gin$eng literally shared a bedroom. The project has since been signed for distribution by The Orchard, including their catalogue which is being re-promoted with new music videos for “welcome and goodbye” and “Dream, Ivory.”  Their new album About A Boy is out now, with singles like “Tastes Like Candy” and “Would It Kill You At All” their evolving sound. On his own, the producer continues to get placements from collaborations with Yeat, Misogi, Mark Tuan (GOT7), SSGKobe and more.

MNRK writer/producer, Elias Abid, has been developing a few notable artists around the world recently.  For most of 2021, he worked remotely from the MNRK Milkweed Studio in LA with UK artist Venbee, which included him co-writing and producing the recently released and hotly buzzed about song “Low Down”.  Originally dropped on Tiktok, the track subsequently gained millions of likes across thousands of reposts including by Sam Smith.  It was introduced as a BBC “Track of the Week” leading to a major label bidding war.  Now, Venbee and Elias tee up the next few tracks from their cadre of demos together. He has a few more projects in the chamber including up-and-comer LUCI, a NY artist signed to Don’t Sleep, as well as buzzworthy LA artist Sam Truth.

Ben Lovett

Following last years trilogy of soundstracks (The Night House, The Old Ways and Broadcast Signal Intrusion), this year saw Ben focus on just the one, but it was a monster – the soundtrack for the Hollywood remake of ‘80’s classic Hellraiser.

As the streams for his debut album “Breathe” continue to mount up, Sam is already working on the follow up.  His recent 2-month trip to the US saw sold out shows in New York and LA, not to mention some amazing collaborations.  Watch this space!  We should maybe also mention that small matter of him having co-written and co-produced the track “My Window (feat. Mahalia)” on Lucky Daye’s  GRAMMY WINNING album “Table For Two”.

Will Clarke

Earlier this year, a song written by Detroit/UK producer-DJ Will Clarke landed as the first single for the Deadmau5 x Kaskade side project, KX5. This Summer “Escape” rose to the tops of Spotify’s Mint and Top 40 U.S. radio charts Charts. Followed by numerous remixes and about 35 Million streams, Will’s record as a hit-maker is being cemented even further. Next up is Will’s own solo produced album, a slight departure from his regular global DJ sets, coming early to mid next year.

PARISI
Never ones to be idle, the Italian-born, London-based brothers Marco and Jack, have co-written and co-produced a number of recent releases including “Black Eyed Peas “In The Air”, Fred Again’s album “Actual Life 3”, Fred Again x Swedish House Mafia Turn On The Lights Again (ft Future)’, BaauerLet Me Love You’, WankelmutNo Days Off’, Swedish House Mafia (‘Calling On’) and Elderbrook (‘Broken Mirror’ and ‘Dominoes’).  Not to mention their track with Johnny Orlando from the My Little Pony soundtrack being used as the global trailer for the film.

Small Green Shoots

Our friends at Small Green Shoots have been as busy as ever.  Whilst their Sharpies programme is introducing us to the next generation of industry execs’s, recent highlights of their work include putting together the “Sisters In Sound” event in conjunction with Dr Martens and Mahalia.  They also partnered with Music Week for the Music Week Awards.  However, with recent PPL and Arts Council cuts, any ideas for additional funding would be HUGELY welcomed.  Or just go and donate - SGS Just Giving page
